Gerrard scores against PSV EindhovenLiverpool passed like a hurricane from the Netherlands dominating PSV Eindhoven 3-0 while AC Milan stumbled at home against Bayern Munich giving up a 2-2 draw that gives the Germans the upper hand on their way to the Champions League semis.

Milan dominated the game against their German rivals for the most part of the 93 minutes played at San Siro stadium. The Italian scored first from a header 40 minutes into the game after Munich’s goalkeeper had denied them twice before with some fantastic saves. Milan looked poised to win this match with a high score if not for Bayern’s defender Van Buyten who slotted his team’s first goal with a shot off a lose ball in the box. Milan regained the lead soon thereafter when the Russian referre Iouri Baskakov made a terrible call rewarding the home team a penalty kick that was easily converted by Kaka. Playing in extra time, none expected that the resilient Germans who had been dominated the entire game would be able to equalize. And yet, during the last play of the game in the 93rd minute, Van Buyten scored his second goal for the night when his shot from an impossible angle hit the back of Dida’s net. Clearly the Germans have the advantage hosting the Italians in the second leg of this match up.

At the same time in the Netherlands, the English who tasted blood after eliminating the defending champions Barcelona were guaranteeing a spot in the semis for themselves by scoring 3 goals and allowing none. Liverpool was the Champions League winners two years ago and they are obviously determined to regain Europe’s top trophy. Steve Gerrard, John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch were the scorers for Liverpool. Crouch continues in excellent scoring form after netting 3 goals against Arsenal last weekend.
