I agree Italy need to get their game together but they have the talent and they are World Champions so they still have a chance. I was not impressed by Portugal but I was indeed impressed by Holland and Spain. I have actually written an article with a recap of the first round of games and my predictions for which teams will move on to the quarter finals. Check it on the front page.

now panther after the first round is played…. things start to look a bit more clearer….

italy to my horror are truly worth s…!! “not much” this time around.

holland as predicted are a great team, as is portugal!

spain however after last night game, must be considered all the way on the top….. what truly great game they played!

The Russians to win Euro 2008 under superb coach Big Guus Hiddink. he has done a remarkable job over the last few years with South Korea and the Aussies and now its about time that it paid off big time with him and the Russians taking home the trophy to a jubilant Moscow square. good luck big man!!!

thank you for you kind comments; it takes a big man to admit making a mistake (especially on the Internet where posting anonymously is so easy.)

The UBS predictions seem a bit off because there are too many variable to consider and, in my opinion, any prediction is as good as any other because of that. With every person making their own predictions and posting them online, at least some will get it right. That said, I still think that this is a subject worth talking about even if the odds of us picking the winner correctly are very low.

If you look around the site, some of our editors have made their own predictions which are different than the UBS software ones.

okay panther 1:0 for you due to a own goal by moi….. !! was clearly victim of reading headlines only, spent a bit more time on you site and must say, truly great site with very good info and stories!

however as for czech lifting the title…. germany loosing to the swiss…. oh well, no wonder UBS is in trouble with prediction as such and as much as i would want the italian’s to be both world and euro champs, sans cannavaro this want very likely not happen… i predict a final between portugal and holland! without any prediction of who may take the trophy…

What about the Dutch… they playing there usual brand of excellent football, it could be their year…. What about Spain…? Czech will go far but too much class and experience in other teams to win it…
Greece, Switz out in 1st round no doubt!
Possible Italy – Germany final….
