Manchester United and AS Roma played the second match between the two teams in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Going into the match Manchester United had a 2-0 lead and AS Roma needed to make it up if they wanted to stand any chance at all of moving into the semi-finals.

The game started very wide open with chances coming early but none as good as the chance that AS Roma had on the penalty kick. They were awarded a penalty kick because of a foul in the box that was committed by the Manchester defender. It seemed clear that Roma was going to open the scoring up against Manchester but the penalty kick was taken terribly and the kick missed the net completely.

The sailed penalty kicked was the turning point in the first half I feel and when Roma didn’t open the scoring up there it seemed that they wouldn’t be able to win the game by the two goals they needed. After that the rest of the game was played without to many chances and without scoring until right near the end when a nice cross set-up a marvelous looking header.

The goal came late into the match and spelled the end for Roma as they weren’t able to bounce back at all after that. The final score ended with it being 1-0 and Manchester secured there position in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Manchester set the record for the most consecutive home wins in Champions Leagues play with the win over Roma, they had been tied with Juventus for the record previously.

The semi-finals feature four great teams and it’s really hard to say who will advance to the championship but I have a feeling that Manchester should be able to make it through to the finals.
