As I’m sure most of you are already aware that the Euro 2008 warm-up action has been underway now and some teams have been playing each other gearing up for June. Greece and Cyprus recently met up and the Panathinaikos FC winger Ninis had a great to beginning to what looks promising for the Greek squad. They beat Cyprus 2-0, but the story was the eighteen year old. Ninis broke the record for being the youngest Greek player to score in Euro Cup action, and it only took him a mere five minutes to tally the goal score. After the goal there wasn’t another until the 59th minute when the Greeks capitalized on a penalty kick.

This match was the first of three warm-up friendly matches for the Greece squad and they looked in good form against Cyprus, and although Cyprus isn’t one of the top contenders it’s always nice getting the first win under your belt and that’s exactly what the Greeks did. An eight win in a row was also at stake for Greece and they came through with the win so now they will be riding an eight game winning streak going into their second friendly against Hungary and then after which they will play Armenia in their last friendly.

Greece will begin Euro2008 against Sweden and that should be a more competitive match for them, this match will commence June 10th. The team should be fairly competitive in the Euros I feel and it should be interesting to see how they manage to fair against the Swedes. There two final friendly matches shouldn’t pose much of a problem and act more as merely a practice for the real thing in June.
