The Italy squad has announced that Cassano with be apart of the twenty four man squad come Euro2008 this year in June, which is rounding up nicely and right around the corner. With many teams naming their rosters it’s a very exciting time right now and Italy helped fuel the excitement with their surprise addition of Cassano this year. Cassano hasn’t played in any international games for the country since 2006, but he has been having a pretty solid year with his team UC Sampdoria. He has netted 10 goals in 22 games this year and Italy believes he has some experience to offer now. Cassano is only twenty five years old so I’m not sure about experience, but well see. He has been playing as well as his superstar teammates so he may be ready for this years Euro Cup.
The team has been training solidly and the coach says they will be continuing training leading up to the matches. Donadoni the coach of the Italians has just been signed by the federation up till 2010, but both of them may cancel the agreement pending how they do in the Euro Cup. Donadoni has said though that if the Italians don’t do well he’d be one of the very first people to resign and they wouldn’t need to worry about getting him to leave.
They have one of the best squads this year though so I don’t think Donadoni will need to worry much about that, although I’ve seen stranger things happen in the Euro Cup. The team starts action June the 9th against the Netherlands and then the 13th against Romania and the 17th against the French. The Italians should win the group but with the French battling tough right now it couldcause for some weird surprises.
