Long Awaited Rematch

The long awaited rematch between Portugal and the Czech Republic is currently underway as I write this blog post and right now the score sits at 0-0. Fresh in most people’s memories is the Pavel Poborsky goal which shook the Portugal squad 12 years ago and basically formed the history of Poborsky. Before the goal Poborsky wasn’t very well known and in fact hardly anyone out of his home country knew who he was, but since the goal twelve years ago he has been asked about it constantly since. The time has come for the two teams too meet again finally and although it’s only a qualifying match, in the Euros every match is vital to the team’s success and a loss could end a team’s tournament. This should make for a very entertaining game today and I can’t wait to catch the second half after the post.
Czech already won their first game against the host country Switzerland and looked in great form. The team has quite a few young guns in the line-up and I think the youth should help carry the Czech squad past the first round this year.
The Czech team has had great success in the Euros the past couple decades and they appear to be ready for this year’s challenge. They haven’t qualified yet with their opening win but the three points definitely put them on the road to getting there and I feel that they might even slip past Portugal again today.
PS: Portugal won the game 3-1 securing a first place finish in Group A with plenty of time to rest for the quarter finals.
