Barcelona’s new coach Pep Guardiola thanked his players after a win in his first competitive match with the team on Wednesday. Thus far, Guardiola has led Barca to a great preseason and although it is still early on it seems like he isn’t throttled by the immense pressure. Barcelona shut out Wisla Krakow in the Champions League third-qualifying-round tie on Wednesday with an amusing 4-0 victory.
Guardiola knows that it won’t always be this easy, but he seems confident that the team’s high momentum will lead to a nice season for Barca. He actually shyed away from taking credit for the early success, saying that it was the players who play the game and that he only had to make minor changes. He is certainly undermining himself because as we all know a coach can make a huge difference in the attitude and chemistry of a team.
So far Barcelona is looking great as a unit. In Wednesday’s game the defense was stellar and the offense was strong, as can be seen by the score. Samuel Eto’o scored twice and both Thierry Henry and Xavi each added one more. Guardiola was especially pleased with Henry’s goal and glad that the Frenchman was doing well after a difficult first season with the team last year. The hope is certainly there this year in Barca and perhaps they will finally be able to get to the top if they continue playing like they have so far.
