Zenit St. Petersburg has lowered its asking price for forward Andrei Arshavin, once again sparking Tottenham’s desire to sign him. The Spurs have been interested in the player for quite a while, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on the fee. With the price now lowered from the original 20 million pounds, Zenit expects a deal to go through anytime within the next few days.

Arshavin really caught the eyes of the Spurs, as well as most of Europe, in Euro 2008 where he led Russia to a great run ending in the semis. The 27-year-old has shown great skill and leadership and is currently being compared to some of the best in European soccer. At first there were rumors that he was seeking a move to Barcelona, but Tottenham seems to have won him over after coach Juande Ramos talked to him. With Zenit and Arshavin looking for the deal and the price lowered it is almost certain that the transfer is going to happen. Negotiations will still take place between the two sides as they work out the miniscule details including the exact price of the transfer (no figure has been released yet because negotiations are still underway.)

This move will certainly help out the Spurs, who lost Robbie Keane to Liverpool. Dimitar Berbatov may also be transferred because he wants to go to Manchester United. Arshavin is bound to be welcomed as he joins Tottenham and one more strengthens that front line.
