Cole wants to remain in blue
Midfielder Joe Cole of Chelsea has announced that he would like to spend the rest of his career at Stamford Bridge. The 26-year-old is ready to fight for a regular place in the starting lineup even if he has to compete with Robinho for it.
Currently, Cole’s contract negotiations have been put on hold by both parties as the season gets underway. He had been hoping to get something done this offseason, but understands that Chelsea had a busy summer and there just wasn’t enough time. For now Cole is signed through the next two years, but he is definitely seeking an extension and perhaps that will mean a spike in his performance as he tries to prove that he is the best option for Chelsea heading into the future.
According to Cole, Chelsea is also looking for an extension and he doesn’t expect much difficulty as his contract nears expiry. There have been reports that Chelsea is interested in Robinho as well (although Real Madrid is pretty confident that Robinho won‘t be leaving), but Cole seems up for the challenge. He added that with a competitive club like Chelsea, fighting for a spot was nothing unusual and he was looking forward to proving himself. Cole had a good year last season and was voted player of the year, so if he can continue playing like he did, his job security will certainly grow.
