Ronaldo is long gone from Serie A since last summer his last club AC Milan let him go. Since then, Ronaldo has recovered from another knee injury that nearly ended his career prematurely. Currently, he is back in Brazil training with Flamengo as a free agent while trying to figure out what to do next.

Enter Serie A club Siena who have shown interest in acquiring the 32-year old striker.

Siena has offered Ronaldo a performance-based contract. The striker will make 100,000 Euro for every goal he scores. Not a bad deal for the team and Ronaldo. Let’s face it, he is still young and he can easily score 5-10 goals this season while playing in a high-profile league. It would be his chance to show everyone that he is not the washed-up player that many have him to be. And the money is not bad. Siena find themselves at the bottom-half of the Serie A table scoring less than 1 goal per game. As you can tell, they can use the services of a capable striker if they want to avoid relegation.

I like the idea of players receiving their paychecks based on how they perform on the pitch. The professional soccer players today don’t play for the team. They play for their paycheck and since the latter is paid to them regardless of their performance, they just don’t care. This is a bad situation for the team owners and the fans who expect more from the people they idolize.

Ronaldo, please accept Siena’s offer and open the doors for a new contract that might bring true passion back to soccer.
