The classic derby between the two richest soccer clubs in Greece left everybody wishing they had not wasted their time to watch. The game ended in a scoreless draw with neither team playing anything resembling soccer. In fact, Olympiakos had only a single chance to score in 96 minutes played on Sunday.

Both coaches setup their teams so as not to lose. Panathinaikos was coming off two huge victories away from home against Panionios and Werder Bremen and the last thing the management wanted was a loss at the hands of their mortal enemy. At the same time, Olympiakos playing away from home clearly would benefit from a draw and so it was not surprising that the team preferred to play defense and only counter-attack whenever possible.

Other than the hard tackles, constants complaints to the referee and the bonehead fans who set the stadium on fire towards the end of the game, there is nothing more to talk about with regards to this game. The referee had to show 11 yellow cards in total to both teams and that tell the whole story.

Let us hope that the next game between the two teams will be a bit more exciting and focused on the soccer than the karate.
