Football Club BunyodkorBrazilian attacking midfielder Rivaldo Vitor Borba Ferreira has signed a new contract with Uzbekistan champion Bunyodkor to play for another 3 seasons until 2011. The 36-year old former Brazil international moved to play soccer in Asia after 4 great years of soccer in the Greek Superleague playing for Olympiakos and AEK having previously played for world famous soccer clubs Barcelona and AC Milan.

When Rivaldo moved to Uzbekistan to play for Bunyodkor (formerly known as Kuruvchi) last August after a very poor start for his Greek team AEK, it was obvious that this transfer was his attempt to earn a big, fat paycheck just before retirement. I don’t think many expected him to stay in the Uzbek league past this season. After leading Bunyodkor to the Uzbek league title and cup, he and his team decided that it was a good idea for him to remain there for a bit longer. As a result, Rivaldo signed a new contract until 2011. It is fair to say that this will be the last contract of his storied soccer career.

Rivaldo helped his new team win the titles both with his action on and off the field. He was an important factor in fellow Brazilian Zico’s decision to move to Uzbekistan to coach Kuruvchi. The two together have been making a difference in the Uzbek league and let us hope that this will continue for the next 3 seasons.
