Kaka signs with Real Madrid
Filed Under Primera Division | Leave a Comment
News from yesterday are that the Brazilian Kaka has transferred from AC Milan to Real Madrid a move that essentially kick started the rebuilding of the Madrid club as it tries to once more become competitive against rival Barcelona. The price Madrid paid has not been disclosed but most media reports that Kaka cost 90 to 95 million dollars. As far as the player is concerned, he will be compensated with 12-15 million dollars per year for the 6 years of his new contract. At the age of 27, this move may just be the last move of his career.
Real Madrid is certainly out there spending money as they prepare for next season probably scared to death of Barcelona who lift the treble of the Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League this past season. Rumor has it that they are going after Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo once again; it seems like every other month there are rumors of Ronaldo leaving Man U but I wonder if this is the year when it actually happens. Of course, Madrid is also interested in acquiring Franck Ribéry from Bayern Munich and possibly David Villa from Valencia.
I don’t know if bringing such stars together will make the difference Madrid fans are hoping for. It didn’t really work for Chelsea when they spent a gazillion dollars to buy most superstars they could only to continue finishing second to Manchester United more often than they wanted. One thing is for certain. Florentino Perez has money and he is willing to spend it to rebuild his team. Let’s see if it works out in the end.
