Michael OwenA single phone call and breakfast with Sir Alex Ferguson was all that was needed to convince Owen to sign with Manchester United. Free from Newcastle, his last team, the English striker was in talks with a number of teams (e.g., Hull City) when, as he explains, Sir Alex called and easily convinced him to move his game to Old Trafford.

The 29-year old striker signed a 2-year contract with Man United in hopes of reliving his glory days with Liverpool. Owen’s promising career has been held back by numerous injuries. Playing 4 years with Newcastle, he was only able to play in 76 games scoring 30 goals nonetheless. Manchester united is his last chance to prove to the world that he is still as good as he was before. Sir Alex certainly believes in him. I am certain that Man U fans are going to welcome Owen at Old Trafford. don’t forget that it was only 8 years ago in 2001 when Owen won the Ballon d’Or trophy for the best soccer player in Europe.

This signing and that of Tevez will definitely strengthen Man U after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.
