Dan_Petrescu_croppedScotland have been looking for a new national team manager since they sacked George Burley in November, but seem to be reluctant to appoint someone who may actually do a decent job. They had scheduled a meeting with Unirea Urziceni manager Dan Petrescu, but canceled it because they had not made up an “official list of candidates” yet.

Europe’s Cinderella story this season has definitely been Petrescu, who led Unirea to their first ever domestic league title, and now stands on the brink of qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League. The Romanian club have achieved great things with meager resources, especially compared to the competition around them, and the former Chelsea man will take a good deal of credit for that.

As such, he seems like the perfect candidate for a nation like Scotland, who need someone to transform a hard-working but devoid of much talent team into one capable of winning games and qualifying for big tournaments. Reports are Petrescu has said he is interested in the job, which makes it all the more baffling why the Scottish FA aren’t jumping to secure his signature. They may want to wait and consider their best option, but Petrescu is sure to be offered much better-paid deals from bigger clubs soon. With his experience in England, he may be in line for a job in the Premiership, one that is sure to capture his interest. Instead of canceling meetings, one believes Scotland should be moving in for him fast.
