R_FerdinandManchester United have been plagued by a horrific injury crisis all season, and the latest news concerning Rio Ferdinand isn’t any better. The English defender has been missing from action since October, and as of yet doctors have not been able to give him a return date. Not too long ago Ferdinand was part of a seemingly unshakable defense with Vidic and a great duo with John Terry for England, but these injuries are not looking good, considering he is in his 30s.

Sir Alex Ferguson revealed:

“We gave Rio an injection just over two weeks ago so we have to let that settle for a week then he can go back into the gym work and do some more core work. We are just hoping that pain goes away.

“There is no light at the end of the tunnel and it is difficult to put a timescale on a back injury. But I don’t think he is too far away.”

So, hopefully, he will be back some time after the new year, and if things go well maybe get back in shape in time for the World Cup. This might ease rumors about Ferdinand being forced to prematurely retire, but Man United fans won’t be feeling too optimistic, considering the luck they’ve had with players’ fitness. Add that to the news that Dimitar Berbatov also requires surgery and wight be out for three months, one thinks any silverware this season would be a massive achievement for the champions.
