Luca_ToniTwo of the most popular Italian players Luca Toni and Francesco Totti will finally get to play alongside each other at club level. This became a fact when Bayern Munich allowed the deal taking Toni to Roma for half a season to be completed. After a huge bust-up with the coach, the former Fiorentina striker had desperately been looking for a new club, and he has admitted this is his perfect opportunity:

“I’m delighted and I will try to help the coach and all the squad achieve our goals. I have great motivations, as soon as I heard that Roma wanted me I accepted immediately. I’m up for the challenge, it won’t be easy but we’ll see what happens. I have six months to show that I am a Roma player. I have to score goals. I will try to deserve my place because there are already great attackers at Roma.”

Very humble words by a player who definitely sounds eager to get out of the rut he has found himself in the last couple of years. And as long as he delivers, the deal is almost certain to become a permanent one. He will wear the #30 shirt at Roma and try to help them secure a Champions League place this season.

Italian fans will hope this move will rejuvenate their top striker’s career and get him ready for the World Cup, where they’ll need his experience. Toni and Totti were Italy’s strike force when then won the competition back in 2006, and it might not be too late for another triumphant run.
