Hiddink heading for Juventus
Filed Under Serie A | Leave a Comment
Russia’s national team coach Guus Hiddink is being primed to take over as manager of Juventus, which would really be the perfect move for the struggling Italian club. They will be hoping he can emulate his spell last season at Chelsea, where he re-energized the team and led them to the Champions League semi-final.
Many are saying this is the worst state footballing-wise the Italian giants have been for some time now, and recent results can’t really argue with that. Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on the last day of the group stages, and to top it off were recently beaten 3-0 by AC Milan in Serie A, leaving them far behind the top place. The result even lead to some Juve fans clashing with the police and setting fire to stadium “Olimpico” after the game.
Hiddink suffered a rather big disappointment of his own recently when Russia crashed out to Slovenia in the World Cup playoff, but other than that, he has enjoyed tremendous success in his past few jobs. Besides helping Chelsea, he led Russia to a successful Euro 2008 tournament, and before that reached the semi-finals with South Korea at the 2002 World Cup. He has that “golden-touch” that can create winning teams, and Juve have the resources to get out of this situation.
It is yet undecided whether this time around he will have to quit as Russia coach, but it is possible he can do both jobs simultaneously.
