bundesliga_logoAlthough often put behind other top European leagues like the Premiership, Serie A and La Liga, the German Bundesliga is more than holding its own as one the most stable in the world. In fact, it just set a new record with an average attendance of 42,115 fans for the first half of the season, a five percent increase on the same period last year.

Managing director Christian Mueller said in a statement:

“With more than 42,000 spectators per game, the Bundesliga remains the strongest league in the world in terms of spectators. The factors leading to this success are suspense until the very last matchday, balanced teams, as well as comfortable, modern stadiums and family-friendly ticket prices.”

Another factor that may have helped is that many German stadiums have “safe-standing” areas, which allow fans who prefer to stand during matches to do so. This is an option many Premiership supporters have been asking for quite a while, but are denied due to safety regulations. The Bundesliga, however, proves that with proper management and organization, there is no reason not to try it out. For anyone who has experienced both, atmosphere and excitement is helped immensely by allowing supporters to stand in unison.

Perhaps one of the main reasons the Bundesliga isn’t as well respected is because they lack in glamorous clubs, with only Bayern Munich being constantly placed amongst the footballing elite. As this statistic proves, however, many of Germany’s teams receive tremendous support that clubs from other leagues would envy.
