Real Madrid’s failure to get through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League once again has stirred a great deal of emotions, with the club’s president Florentino Perez wondering just who else he has to add to his current star-studded team to help them finally progress further. The combined efforts of new signings like Ronaldo, Kaka and Alonso were not enough to eliminate Lyon, and it looks like Real will be looking at Manchester United again in the summer for a potential boost. Their target, of course, is England striker Wayne Rooney, who right now just may be the most in-form player on the planet.

Reports suggest Rooney would cost around £80 million pounds, but the bigger question is whether they can persuade him to join. It was easier with Ronaldo, who always talked about his “dream” of playing for Real, but Rooney seems perfectly content at Old Trafford for the time being.

On the other hand, Ronaldo has been flaunting his affections for “father-figure” Sir Alex Ferguson recently, and after Real’s misfortunes this seasons, he might be wishing he never left the more secure and media-free environment offered at United. To his credit, though, the Portuguese superstar has not allowed outside distractions interfere in his game, and he has been at his best for most of the season as well.

I for one would like to see these two play together one day again, regardless for which team it is.
