Hamburg player throws bottle at fan
Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
Football players are often subjected to all sorts of abuse from the crowd, from taunts to being hit by missiles, but you know things are going bad when the players start throwing things at the crowd too.
After Hamburg SV’s goalless draw with Hannover 96, which left the home side with a difficult task of qualifying for the Europa Cup next season, strike Jose Paolo Guerrero allowed his frustrations to get the best of him, and he ended up throwing his water battle straight at a fan. The supporter was standing near the entrance to the tunnel, when he got hit by the drink. He wasn’t hurt badly, but the action has caused a stir of emotions.
Guerrero claims he was being insulted by the fan, but these excuses will mostly fall to deaf ears. He will certainly now be punished by the German FA, and Hamburg will dish out their own disciplinary action as well. Their chairman, Bernd Hoffmann, has branded his actions “totally unacceptable”, and has promised there will be consequences for the Peruvian player.
It is true that such things are not needed in football, but it’s amusing to see the fans get a taste of their own medicine from time to time. What if players started throwing match programs at supporters that were being too quiet during a match? It seems like there are some out there that still believe throwing things at people can solve problems, which has never been the case.
