One star young-player who didn’t get a chance to shine at this World Cup was Montenegro’s Stevan Jovetic, and now he faces no less than 8 months on the sidelines for Fiorentina. The 20 year-old player made a huge impact last season for the club in Serie A and in the Champions League, and he was being lined up for a transfer to Barcelona. This season especially he seemed set to explode and establish himself as one of Europe’s top players, but has suffered a devastating blow with this injury.

He was told he would require two operations to repair damage to his knee ligaments, thanks to an injury he sustained in training. At first, it didn’t seem like the situation was nearly as bad, but the club’s doctor Dr Ulrich Boenisch confirmed it. He revealed that Jovetic was in shock when told about the length of time he’ll have to miss, and that he’ll need a lot of encouragement and support to get through this.

The news comes as a huge blow also to the team and all the fans. Many had hopes that he would stay at the club, and while it seems like they will get their wish, this really isn’t the manner in which they wanted to see it happen. For a young player, such a long time out can be extremely frustrating, and everyone can only hope that he can regain his form when he comes back. In the meantime, Florentina will have to make do without.
